Dan East to Announce Run for New Mexico's 3rd Congressional Seat
February 6, 2008

Rio Rancho - At a gathering before friends, family and supporters in his home, East announced his candidacy for New Mexico's 3rd Congressional Seat. During the address, East stated, "For year I have traveled to Washington asking for support and commitments from the federal government and little has been accomplished. Consequently, I have become disillusioned with the current elected officials and have decided to run myself - as an outsider and a small businessman - to bring change to New Mexico.
As a candidate for one of the largest districts in the country, East is crisscrossing the area and listening to the needs of the people. Dan strongly believes that speaking with everyday New Mexicans is imperative. It is not until you understand the needs of the people that you can develop unique solutions to make New Mexico a better place to live, work and raise a family.
Dan stated, "I have the experience, education, and background to help stimulate our local economy by encouraging businesses to create more and better paying jobs. As a small business owner, I have firsthand experience with the high cost of health care. I plan to work within the free enterprise system to find a solution to make health care affordable and accessible for all. We must look at alternative energy sources and decrease our reliance on foreign oil. Additionally, we must continue to support our military, our labs, and our bases. When I am elected, this district will have an ear and a voice in Congress, two things that have been missing for quite a while.
Dan East is a native-born New Mexican. Dan, and his wife Nancy, live in Rio Rancho and together they have seven children ranging in ages from 13 - 25. Their oldest son serves in the U.S. Air Force and was recently decorated with the Bronze Star. Dan and Nancy are also expecting their first grandchild this month (February).
East has a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management from Colorado State University and has held numerous offices within the National Utility Contractors Association. Also among his accomplishments, Dan was named Outstanding Chapter President of the Year and is currently serving as the Senior Vice President of the National Utility Contractors Association.
East owns and operated his own construction company in Albuquerque. Cone Construction Corporation, Inc. is a general contracting firm that constructs water and wastewater treatment facilities. East proudly employs between 20 and 30 individuals. Due to his first hand experience in the industry, Dan fully understands Southwest water and infrastructure issues.
This week, East will continue his travels across the district with stops in Clovis, Tucamcari, Farmington, and Santa Fe.
